The Associates of Arts in Teaching Elementary program prepares candidates to be elementary paraprofessionals. Candidates in the program can also work toward admission to the four-year degree after the AAT to become licensed elementary school teachers.
Associate of Arts in Teaching – Elementary Education (AAT)
61 hours
The Associate of Arts in Teaching presents core knowledge of the education profession by combining content and pedagogical knowledge. Students demonstrate a basic understanding of the teaching profession and child development. The program emphasizes the uniqueness of each child, recognizing that children are best understood in the context of family, culture, society, and environment. The Associate of Arts in Teaching prepares candidates to work in schools as paraprofessionals or to continue on to obtain their Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. To obtain an Associate of Arts in Teaching, the student must earn at least a grade point average of 2.70 on all University credits, and complete the required curriculum (major courses with a C or higher).
Students earning an AAT complete 61 hours that include the following requirements.
