Thank you for your interest in the 2024 SAU Writing Contest? While our rules and requirements for submissions appear below, the deadline for the 2024 Contest has passed. Winners for this year’s contest will be selected no later than Monday, March 11.
Students may submit up to three (3) original works in the categories of poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction (which includes personal narratives, opinion essays, memoirs, travelogues, etc. but not academic essays); no more than three total submissions will be considered. Prizes of $100, $75, and $50 will be offered for submissions in each of the three areas. Submissions are due by 11:59 pm on Friday, February 16. The following rules apply to all submissions:
- Students may not win more than once in the same category.
- Works should be unpublished and by a single author.
- The student’s name should not appear in the submission.
- The student must provide a Muleriders email address, or their work may not be considered.
- File names should not include the student’s name. Ideally, the file name will match the title of the work.
- Any work longer than 3000 words (not counting a Works Cited or biography) will be disqualified.
The SAU Writing Contest is supported by the Department of Modern Languages, whose members will evaluate the entries without knowing the authors of the works they are judging.
