Southern Arkansas University is excited to host a series of engaging workshops this April, offering practical insights into the world of artificial intelligence (AI). These sessions, designed for various audiences, will equip participants with the tools to integrate AI into their daily routines, business operations, and advanced technical applications.
The workshops will be held on April 2, 9, and 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Blanchard Hall 110 on SAU’s campus. Each session is $25, with a discounted rate of $60 for all three.
Session One – Thursday, April 2:
- Developing AI Literacy – How to Use Generative AI to Save Time, Work Smarter, and Stay Informed
- Instructor: Dr. Brianna McCartney
- Overview: In this engaging session, participants will learn the basics of generative AI in simple terms, explore ethical considerations (like misinformation and privacy), and observe live demonstrations of AI in action. You’ll learn how to use AI for writing, learning, planning, professional development, and even entertainment. Plus, you’ll have the chance to try it out yourself with guided exercises! Whether you’re new to AI or looking to deepen your understanding, you’ll walk away with valuable insights and easy-to-use tools to work smarter, not harder.
Session Two – Thursday, April 9:
- Mastering Prompt Engineering & LLMs – Unlocking the Power of AI-Driven Text Generation
- Instructor: Dr. Ahmad Al-Shami
- Overview: This interactive workshop will explore how to structure prompts for greater accuracy, efficiency, and creativity when working with AI tools. Participants will also gain an introduction to advanced techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT), which are key components for developing next-generation AI applications. The session will include hands-on practice for those interested in building AI-powered applications, automating workflows, or generating high-quality content.
Session Three – Thursday, April 16:
- AI for Business Leaders – Boosting Productivity, Streamlining Operations, and Driving Growth
- Instructor: Ms. NaTashia Riley
- Overview: This comprehensive workshop will explore how AI can help automate repetitive tasks, enhance customer interactions, improve decision-making, and unlock creative solutions to business challenges. Participants will learn practical ways to use AI tools for generating professional content, analyzing customer feedback, streamlining administrative work, and developing marketing strategies that produce measurable results.
