Scott Loftin, Director of ASBTDC
Scott Loftin has been named director of the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) at Southern Arkansas University.
Loftin brings years of financial experience to the position, which he hopes to use to help aspiring and current business owners in the region.
Loftin noted, “This position will allow me to help people in the community. If you can help someone make more money, it’s not just money. You’re helping the whole family. It helps the community. It creates more jobs.”
Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Loftin served six years in the U.S. Air Force before completing his bachelor’s degree in 1998 and his master’s degree in 2006.
“I was the first person in my family to go to college and get a master’s degree,” he said. “It was a big deal to me.”
Loftin began his career in finance in 1999 with a consumer lending firm, spending 10 years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area before relocating to south Arkansas, where he had long hoped to settle.
“It’s a beautiful place,” he said of Magnolia and south Arkansas. “There are a lot of nice things about it.”
Now with more than 20 years of financial experience, Loftin said he is eager to put that background to work for entrepreneurs and small business owners in the region.
“This job allows me to draw on 20 years of experience,” he said. “I enjoy meeting people. I’m an extrovert by nature, and I love talking to people. I’ve already talked to a lot of people in the area.”
The ASBTDC offers free services to those seeking help with funding, market research, or business planning.
Loftin noted, “We promote entrepreneurship and business startups. If you want to start, expand, or purchase a business, we’re here to help. Ninety-nine percent of people don’t have funding. With my experience, we specialize in getting all of their ducks in a row.”
Loftin and his wife, Perla, have two adult sons, both of whom work as engineers.
