Makenzi Hamilton
The Southern Arkansas University Alumni Association is proud to announce that Makenzi Hamilton has been named executive director of Alumni Relations. Hamilton brings over a decade of exemplary service and leadership to the role, having contributed significantly to student success through both academic and administrative positions across campus.
A two-time SAU graduate, Hamilton earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice in 2014, followed by a Master of Education in College Counseling and Student Affairs in 2016. Her professional journey reflects a deep-rooted commitment to empowering students and enriching the Mulerider experience.
Hamilton most recently served for seven years as director of recruitment in SAU’s Office of Admissions, where she co-led the President’s Ambassadors and helped shape the next generation of Muleriders. She previously held positions as an academic advisor, admissions counselor, and instructor for student success courses such as Freshman Seminar and Career/Life Planning.
As executive director of Alumni Relations, Hamilton will oversee the development and implementation of programs that provide meaningful engagement opportunities for both alumni and students. She will work closely with the SAUAA Board of Directors and report to Dr. Connie Wilson, vice president for Advancement.
“I’m excited to welcome Makenzi as our new executive director of Alumni Relations. Her love for SAU and passion for engaging our alumni make her ideal for this role. She will do an amazing job,” Dr. Wilson noted.
Hamilton’s leadership and service span far beyond the classroom and office. She has served as president of the Staff Senate, co-coordinator for The Mulerider mascot, and as a long-standing member of the Miss SAU Board of Directors (2015–2023). A proud graduate of the 2018–2019 Mulerider L.E.A.D. class, Hamilton is also a frequent presenter at state-level conferences and an active member of numerous University committees.
“Beginning this new chapter as executive director of Alumni Relations at SAU is both a humbling honor and a full-circle moment in my journey,” said Hamilton. “As a proud Mulerider who began my journey here as a student, I am deeply honored to give back to the institution that has given me so much. SAU has provided me with incredible opportunities, but it’s the people—our students, alumni, faculty, and staff—who truly make this place special.”
Her dedication to excellence has been recognized with multiple honors, including the Mary Anna King Staff Excellence Award and awards for leadership, dedication, and service in Student Affairs.
Hamilton resides in Magnolia with her two beloved standard Goldendoodles, Penelope and Georgia.
“Being part of something bigger than myself and working alongside those who share a passion for SAU fills me with gratitude and excitement. I look forward to building even stronger connections within our alumni family and creating meaningful ways for them to stay engaged, inspired, and proud of the legacy we all share. I’m deeply thankful for this opportunity and excited for all that lies ahead for our alumni and this incredible University,” Hamilton remarked.
