In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy, Southern Arkansas University recently hosted food drive events in partnership with Engage Arkansas.
The Black Student Association and Greek organizations held an on-campus food drive to collect canned goods. These donations were provided to the Mulerider Market, which serves our most vulnerable students on the SAU campus.
The Mulerider Market and Food Pantry hosted additional opportunities for individuals to donate personal hygiene items, canned goods, snacks, and bottled water. On-campus collection locations included the Donald W Reynolds Center, Overstreet Hall, the Ozmer House, and the Mulerider Activity Center. Numerous community partners, such as Bodcaw Bank, Peoples Bank, Magnolia Bake Shop, Bridget’s On the Square, Mac’s Cash Saver, and Piggly Wiggly, volunteered to serve as collection locations for donations.
The SAU Foundation facilitated an online giving option for virtual donations for this food drive initiative. The opportunity to donate to this initiative will remain open through February. This is a way for supporters of SAU to participate from afar.
The Rider Recovery program, another initiative to fight hunger on the SAU campus, commenced in January. This is a partnership with Aramark, the campus food service provider. This program provides food that is prepared as frozen food options for students visiting the Mulerider Market.
Mulerider Market extends gratitude to those that donated to this effort. To participate in the ongoing opportunity, please visit the link or contact, Kathy Gean.
