In partnership with the City of Magnolia and Columbia County, Southern Arkansas University announced the seventh annual Blue and Gold Day on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the SAU Alumni Center.
On this day, the Magnolia community is encouraged to wear blue and gold to support SAU and to come out and enjoy a great evening of fellowship between Magnolia citizens and SAU students.
This year’s event will continue the exciting collaboration between SAU and Magnolia High School with a pep rally at 6:00 p.m.
“The tradition of Blue and Gold Day, now in its seventh year, is a celebration of SAU and Magnolia’s partnership as an Educational Home for all of the community,” remarked SAU President Dr. Bruno Hicks. “Blue and Gold Day is a chance for our new students to meet high school students and community members and for all of our students to experience the bond that makes SAU and Magnolia such a great place to learn. We hope everyone will wear their blue and gold, come out for a great time, and enjoy SAU’s beautiful campus.”
The free event will feature fun activities for the whole family, including photo booths and bounce houses. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet student-athletes, listen to local marching bands, enjoy free hot dogs and nachos, meet Mulerider mascot Cagen Knoles and Molly Ann, and watch the SAU Rodeo Team show off their roping skills.
“Blue and Gold Day has become a tradition that embodies our school and community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this time together,” said John Ward, superintendent of Magnolia Schools. “We value our partnership with SAU and feel like we are an extension and reflection of our community and each other.”
Students new to Magnolia will have the chance to visit with and get to know businesses and organizations in the Magnolia community, find a church home, and sign up for door prizes.
