Southern Arkansas University is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Connie Wilson as the University’s next vice president for advancement. Her appointment comes after a comprehensive search process, and she officially began her new role on December 2, 2024.
Wilson, who has been a dedicated member of the SAU community for over 15 years, brings with her a wealth of experience in higher education leadership, community engagement, and advancement. Her career at SAU has been marked by strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the student experience and strengthening the University’s relationships with its alumni and supporters.

Her extensive experience in education, leadership, and community engagement will be instrumental as we continue to grow and build a strong future for our students, faculty, and alumni.”
Wilson’s journey with SAU began as an undergraduate and graduate student, where her passion for the University was ignited. After completing her studies, she began her first position at SAU and, over the years, has held various key roles as both a faculty and staff member. She also gained experience working in the education field in Louisiana between her roles at SAU. In her most recent position as dean of graduate studies, Wilson has continued to make a significant impact on SAU with new program offerings and graduate enrollment growth under her leadership.
“Southern Arkansas University has been my home for many years, and I am deeply honored to take on this new role as vice president for advancement,” Wilson said. “This University has provided me with incredible opportunities, and I am passionate about giving back and supporting its future. I look forward to working with our faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to continue building on the great work we’ve already accomplished and to secure a bright future for SAU students for generations to come.”
In her new role, Wilson will lead the university advancement team in efforts to foster stronger relationships with alumni, friends, and community partners and develop innovative fundraising strategies to ensure SAU remains a vibrant and accessible institution for future generations of students. Her leadership will play a critical role in the University’s ongoing efforts to expand scholarships, support academic excellence, and create new student opportunities.
Wilson is a highly accomplished educator with a strong academic foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education in Secondary Education, both earned from Southern Arkansas University. Additionally, Wilson obtained her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from Louisiana Tech University, demonstrating her commitment to excellence and leadership in the field of education.
Wilson has been recognized for her service and leadership with multiple awards, including the prestigious SAU Auburn P. Smith Service Award in 2020, the Spirit SAU Award in 2018, and several faculty and community service honors. She has also been active in various organizations, including the Arkansas Council for Women in Higher Education and Magnolia Arts.
As she transitions into her new role, Wilson is eager to continue working alongside the SAU family to build an even brighter future for the University and its students. She is widely recognized for her talent in connecting people and resources in ways that enhance both the University and the wider community.
