Southern Arkansas University’s Intercollegiate Rodeo will feature themed nights this week beginning Thursday, Nov. 1, at Story Arena.
The SAU Rodeo will feature 16 teams from across the United States competing in Bareback Riding, Bull Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Barrel Racing, and other events. It begins at 7 p.m. nightly this Thursday through Saturday. Admission is $10 for adults (13 and older), $5 for youth (ages 6-12), $5 for SAU students (with ID), and free for ages 6 and under.
Thursday night’s theme is Neon Night. The SAU Rodeo Team will enter the arena with glow sticks, and the arena will be blacked out so that guests can enjoy a spectacular presentation. Friday night is Teal Night. The SAU team and other participating college rodeo teams will wear and highlight teal to raise awareness about sexual assault. Guests are also encouraged to wear teal to show support for those who have experienced sexual assault and to take a stand against sexual violence.
Competition barrels that night will be painted teal as part of the night’s theme.
Saturday is Denim Night. The rodeo team will be wearing denim to help honor Columbia County first responders. Guests will also be encouraged to wear denim that night.
SAU Rodeo is riding a string of success as the 2017-18 season was the third consecutive year for an individual National or Reserve title and Top 10 team placing. It was also the 11th straight year for the SAU team to go to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.
