The Southern Arkansas University Heritage Singers and Chamber Singers will combine in a performance of Francis Poulenc’s “Gloria” at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2018, in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church.
The performance is free and open to the public. The First United Methodist Church is located at 320 West Main Street in Magnolia.
Composed between April of 1959 and July of 1960, “Gloria” is one of Poulenc’s (1899-1963) most well-known works for choir and orchestra. Most often, “Gloria” is heard with chorus, soprano solo and orchestra. This performance will be as the piece was originally conceived by the composer, with piano accompaniment.
The first half of the concert will feature an eclectic mix of seasonal favorites performed by a variety of artists including Buddy Deese (trumpet), Dave Ekstrum (tenor), Ben Facundo (soprano saxophone), Jaymee King (soprano), Amy Womack (soprano) and Michael Womack (piano). Audience members will also have the opportunity to participate in advent carols.
Following a brief intermission, the choirs will take the stage for their performance of “Gloria.”
