Southern Arkansas University recently announced the names of 11 students honored for distinction in 2016-17 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.
Students honored include Gabrielle Davis, Carlee Erwin, Manisha Gc, Pranit Hamal, Kelsey Jackson, Morgan Lassyard, Kirby McLeane, Caleigh Moyer, Holly Roomsburg, Austin Taylor, and Sunni Wise.
Gabrielle Annette Davis, of Magnolia, is a senior Political Science major and has been involved in various campus activities including Sister-2-Sister as well as being a member of the Student Government Association, Honors College, the Black Student Association, the National Society of Leadership and Success, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the President’s Ambassadors. Some highlights of Davis’s volunteer efforts are Making Magnolia Blossom, the Special Olympics, Upward Bound service baskets, and Arkansas Childrens Hospital Necessity Drive. Davis has been awarded the Outstanding Service Awards for Alpha Kappa Alpha, Honors College, and Student Support Services. Davis is the daughter of Rebekah McDowell and Kenneth Davis.
Carlee Elizabeth Erwin, of Fordyce, is a junior Pre-Health Chemistry major and has been involved in various campus activities including the Pre-Health Club, Phi Mu Fraternity, the Student Activities Board, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. In addition to volunteer work with Dudneywood Assisted Living and the Special Olympics, Erwin has earned several awards, including Volunteer and Member of the Year awards. She is the daughter of Karen and Greg Erwin.
Manisha GC, of Kathmandu, is a senior Biological Science major and has been involved in various campus activities including the Pre-health Club, the International Student Association, Honors College, Student Support Services, Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, the President’s Ambassadors, and the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society. In addition to volunteer work with the Lois Davis Invitational, the Lalanobooza, Making Magnolia Blossom, STEM Day, and the Special Olympics, Gc has earned several awards, including the Ted. A and Mary Alice Scholarship, the Outstanding Service as an SI Leader award, and the Dean’s List. She is the daughter of RamHari Gc and Binda Gc.
Pranit Hamal, of Kathmandu, is a junior Computer Science major and has been involved in various campus activities including the Residence Hall Council, Community Advisor and Resident Assistant for Housing, Brother-2-Brother, Honors College, the International Student Association, and the Student Activities Board. In addition to volunteer work with Making Magnolia Blossom, SAU Campus Cleanup, Blue and Gold Day, and the International Coastal Clean Up, Hamal has earned several awards, including the Outstanding Service Award and the 1911 Oustanding Staff Award for the Residence Hall Association. He is the son of Prajani and Ramesh Hamal.
Kelsey Renee Jackson, of El Dorado, is a senior Psychology major and has been involved in various campus activities including Genesis, the Black Student Association, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Omega, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Some highlights of Jackson’s volunteer efforts are Making Magnolia Blossom, highway cleanup, and the Compassions Womens Center. Jackson has been awarded Leadership Recognition & Awards honor from Alpha Phi Omega. Jackson is the daughter of Jackie and Frederick Jackson.
Morgan LeAnn Layssard, of Taylor, is a senior Nursing (BSN) major and has been involved in various campus activities including Phi Mu Fraternity, the Alpha Chi Honor Society, and the President’s Ambassadors. Some highlights of Layssard’s volunteer efforts are the Arkansas Women’s Outreach collection of supplies, Louisiana Flood Buckets, and Campus Cleanup. Layssard has been awarded the BAM Leader of the Year, Greek Scholar, Tour Guide of the Year, Outstanding Service to Phi Mu, and Mulerider Leadership awards. Layssard is the daughter of Patricia and Eric Layssard.
Kirby Leigh McLeane, of Camden, is a senior Exercise Science major and has been involved in various campus activities including Phi Mu Fraternity, Student Activities Board, Biology and Pre-health clubs, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. In addition to volunteer work with the Christian Health Center, the fishing Derby, Dominos Fundraiser for Kaylynn Sands, and UAMS Circle of Friends, McLeane has earned several awards, including the Academic Excellence Award. She is the daughter of Teresa and David McLeane.
Caleigh Sue Moyer, of Lincoln, is a senior Agriculture Business major and has been involved in various campus activities including the Collegiate Farm Bureau, Collegiate FFA, President’s Ambassadors, Ag Club, and Delta Tau Alpha. In addition to volunteer work with Arkansas Women in Agriculture, the District FFA CDE, the special needs rodeo, and the Angel Tree, Moyer has earned several awards, including the President’s Ambassador of the Year, the Poultry Federation Scholarship, and the Collegiate Farm Bureau Scholarship. She is the daughter of Dyanna and Jerry Moyer.
Holly Elizabeth Roomsburg, of El Dorado, is a senior Communication Design major and has been involved in various campus activities including the Wesley Foundation, Chamber and Heritage Singers, Enactus, Sigma Phi Lambda, and Phi Beta Lambda. Some highlights of Roomsburg’s volunteer efforts are the Lois Davis Invitational, the Day of the Undead Zombie Run 5K, the fundraiser for World Vision, the Domestic Violence Shelter and CCAPS. Roomsburg has been awarded a national PBL Desktop Publishing award. Roomsburg is the daughter of Anette and Jim Roomsburg.
Austin Jamal Taylor, of Little Rock, is a senior Accounting major and has been involved in various campus activities including Alpha Phi Alpha, the Student Government Association, National PHC, the Business Student Advisory Council, and the Black Student Association. In addition to volunteer work with the Glass House, SAKE business events, and the local Boys & Girls Club, Taylor has earned several awards, including the PBL State Leadership Conference and PBL National Leadership awards. He is the son of Craig Taylor.
Sunni Danielle Wise, of Magnolia, is a senior Agricultural Education major and has been involved in various campus activities including the Residence Hall Association, Alpha Sigma Alpha, the Agriculture Club, Collegiate FFA, the Housing Team, and Delta Tau Alpha. Some highlights of Wise’s volunteer efforts are the Special Olympics, CCAPS, Kaylynn Sands fundraiser, and Making Magnolia Blossom. Wise has been awarded the Greek Woman of the Year, Fletcher Family Memorial Scholarship, and the Kory Dedmon Scholarship awards. Wise is the daughter of Cody and Jason Cochran.
