The Southern Arkansas University Bass Tournament Fishing Team is gearing up for a successful year and looking for new members to become national collegiate champions.
Warren Basinger, president of the team, said new member meetings for the 2017-2018 season are slated for next week.
The meetings will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Center and are set for Monday, Aug. 28, Wednesday, Aug. 30 and Thursday, Aug. 31.
The team recently met to approve changes to its by-laws and to present team members with awards for achievements over the summer.
Freshman Raygan Griffin of El Dorado won Big Bass of the 2016-2017 tournament season, catching a bass weighing 5.82 pounds. He caught the fish at Sam Rayburn Reservoir during the Yeti College Fishing Southern Open. Cade Coleman and freshman Dalton Baker, of Magnolia, each won the Outstanding Service Award of the season. Hunter Bell won the 2016-2017 Angler of the Year award. Bell accumulated the most points in the team tournament series and was the most consistent in all tournaments.
Basinger said the team met to “fine-tune our organization into one that runs smoother and more efficiently. We will be sending our by-laws to be approved by Student Affairs.”
