Ring in the holidays with the Southern Arkansas University Celebration of Lights, which will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, on the SAU campus.
The annual event kicks off with the Family Christmas Movie, “Elf,” at 3 p.m. in Foundation Hall. Showings are also scheduled for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Personalized photo mugs will be available at no charge in the Reynolds Center Plaza from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. The Magnolia Christmas Parade, “Making the Season Bright,” will begin at 5 p.m. (Parade ends in the Reynolds Center parking lot at SAU.) Train rides will also be available in the mall area from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Story Time with Mrs. Claus will be at the Magale Library at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. She will read “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” There will be free storybooks available while supplies last.
RHA Overstreet Lighting is at 6 p.m. and features greetings by RHA members and Dr. Trey Berry, president of SAU; lighting of the Christmas tree by donors as well as the Lighting of the Centennial Tree, and performances by the SAU Band, Heritage Singers and Chamber Singers. Refreshments will be available. Parade winners will also be announced at Overstreet Hall.
Reynolds Center activities include photos with Santa and Angel Tree adoptions from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. and the lighting of the bell tower at 6:25 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., members of Magnolia Presbyterian Church will play handbells in the Reynolds Center Rotunda.
A buffet dinner follows in Grand Hall at the Reynolds Center. Adult tickets are $8.50 and tickets for children 5-12 are $4. (Children under age 5 eat free.) Tickets can be purchased at the door. Christmas music will be provided by pianist Walter Hale and violinist Deena Hardin.
Finally, the SAU family musical, “Madagascar,” will be performed at 7 p.m. at Harton Theatre.
