Join Dorothy, Toto and the cast of other iconic characters this week as Southern Arkansas University Theatre presents The Wizard of Oz at 7 p.m. nightly in Harton Theatre from April 21-23, and at 2 p.m. on April 24.
Patrons should order tickets soon because ticket pre-sales for this show are better than any in recent years. Tickets can be purchased at www.showtix4u.com, and are $15 for adults and $10 for SAU students and children 12 and under. The April 23 performance includes an actor talk-back. This show combines the talent of more than 50 SAU students with faculty and community members of all ages playing roles in the cast and crew. This is the first musical at SAU since the establishment of the BFA in Musical Theatre in the fall of 2015. Previous SAU spring musicals have included Beauty and the Beast and Seussical the Musical.
Click your heels together and join Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Dorothy and her little dog Toto, as they journey through the magical land of Oz to meet the Wizard and obtain their heart’s desires. Watch out for the Wicked Witch of the West and her winged monkeys as you rediscover the real story of Oz in this fantastic musical treat for all the family.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of The Wizard of Oz is an enchanting adaptation of the all-time classic, totally reconceived for the stage by the award-winning creative team that delighted audiences of all ages with their recent London Palladium revival of The Sound of Music. Developed from the ever-popular MGM screenplay, this new production contains all the much-loved songs from the Oscar winning movie score, all the favorite characters and iconic moments, plus a few surprises along the way, including new songs by Webber.
The Wizard of Oz is directed and choreographed by Michael Susko, SAU’s award-winning visiting director of theatre. The musical director is Dr. David DeSeguirant, associate professor of music and director of choral activities; stage manager is SAU sophomore Joann Shaver.
