Southern Arkansas University staff members were recently recognized for service at the annual Staff Breakfast on Thursday, March 17, 2016.
Allen Lachut, assistant director of counseling, earned the third annual Alvin and Irene Brannon Staff Diversity Award, which comes with a $500 honorarium. The SAU Diversity Excellence Awards recognize contributions to promoting, supporting, and improving diversity and inclusion as a core component of valuing people at SAU.
Deana Taylor and Edgar Johnson earned the annual Mary Anna King Whitehead Staff Excellence Awards. Taylor is the community involvement and parent programming coordinator in the Division of Student Affairs at SAU, and she received the Support Staff award and $500. Johnson is the skilled trades supervisor (carpentry) for the SAU Physical Plant, and he received the Professional Staff award and $500.
Six staff members were recognized with the first annual Spirit of SAU Award, which revives the tradition of honoring faculty and staff that exhibit exemplary Mulerider Spirit. Staff members honored included Del Duke, Sarah Jennings, Jennifer Rowsam, Aaron Street, Eunice Walker, and Shelly Whaley.
Staff Service Awards were given for years of service. Recognized for 10-years of service to SAU were Lindsay Bragg, Ken Lamb, Anne Sands, and Monsigne White. For 20-years of service, honored were Kathy Cole, Rita Kelley, and Darryl Watson. Mary Iverson was honored for her 30-years of service. Retirees recognized included Lena Love, Michael Christenson, and Randy Purifoy.
