Phi Beta Lambda of Southern Arkansas University’s Rankin College of Business is sponsoring a diaper drive this month with the goal of collecting 6,000 diapers for families in Columbia County. The drive will culminate with a Diaper Drop-Off Day on Thursday, Oct. 27, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the SAU Reynolds Center Plaza.
The diapers will be distributed to area families through the Arkansas Diaper Depot.
“This is the sixth year we’ve sponsored a diaper drive,” Dr. Gerald Plumlee, assistant professor of management and PBL advisor, said. “The reason for the drive is to get diapers to people who really need them.”
One Arkansas child is born into poverty every 47 minutes, according to the Children’s Defense Fund. Families struggling to provide food and necessities are often forced to choose between buying food and purchasing diapers for their infants.
The diapers will be donated to the Hannah Pregnancy Resource Center. This is a non-profit organization located in El Dorado, Magnolia and Camden. The diapers will be distributed by Hannah Pregnancy Resource Center to parents in need in the community. Diapers can be dropped off in the Rankin College of Business or on the drop-off date. If your diapers need to be picked up, call (870) 235-4298.
Phi Beta Lambda is the post-secondary division of Future Business Leaders of America. Membership is open to all interested students and professionals.
