Put on your thinking caps to see if you can solve the case before dessert as Southern Arkansas University’s Criminal Justice Organization will be hosting a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater from 5-7 p.m. on October 3, 2015, in the Reynolds Center Grand Hall.
SAU Criminal Justice Organization advisor Louis Roy promises a night of fun, entertainment and prizes. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Roy at (870) 235–4226, or e-mailing lcroy@saumag.edu. Prices are $30 individually, or $50 for a couple. Diners are encouraged to come dressed in Western attire, and the best dressed in 1870’s Western wear will earn a prize. The table that identifies the murderer will also be rewarded.
The SAU Criminal Justice Club is passionate about community involvement, and they will be accepting donations of canned food items. Each donation will offer the opportunity to win prizes.
The murder mystery dinner is one of the many ideas spearheaded by Roy, assistant professor of criminal justice. Just this past summer, Roy initiated a week-long criminal justice youth academy which consisted of 27 cadets. The participants of the Youth Criminal Justice Residential Academy got to experience various activities, including a SWAT team demo, police K-9 demo, CPR and first-aid training, arrest and cuffing demo, scuba diving training, a marksman competition, and a crime scene investigation (CSI) competition. The cadets also had the chance to win a $500 scholarship to SAU.
With Roy’s help, the Criminal Justice Club also established the Mulerider Marksmen Team. The group quickly became successful as they competed in a regional conference in Denton, Texas, in November. They won accolades against 15 other universities. Three SAU students won first place in the Undergraduate Firearms team event, an SAU team earned second place in the Undergraduate Crime Scene Investigation event, and Roy himself walked away with a second place finish in the Professional Firearms competition.
