Southern Arkansas University is hosting a Game Development Summer Camp from July 20-23, 2015, for 10th – 12th grade students who think they might want to turn their hobby into a career.
Applications must be submitted online at www.SAUmag.edu/Game-Camp by July 7. Fee for the camp is $250, and includes room and board. For more information, contact Rhaelene Lowther at rrlowther@saumag.edu or (870)235-4242.
The camp will be four days, three nights, and curriculum will include an introduction to basic coding, game tools and mechanics and character concept art creation. Fun after-hour activities will include video game tournaments, cosplay, board games, movies and other events.
The camp is being sponsored by SAU’s two Computer Game and Animation Design programs: B.S. in Computer Science with option in Game Design and B.F.A. in Computer Game and Animation Design.
SAU’s Computer Game and Animation Design degree is the only one of its kind in Arkansas, and has been extremely popular since it started Fall 2013. This unique program and others has helped catapult SAU’s enrollment to record numbers in Fall 2013 and again in Fall 2014.
Students in game animation and simulation design are taught 3D animation techniques as well as production and management of game environments. They are also trained for a broad variety of scenarios which require prototyping 3D designs for manufacturers of medical equipment, transportation and the military.
The B.S. in Computer Science with option concentration in Computer Game and Animation Design is for students interested in innovative video game development. It offers experience in highly competitive introductory and advanced topics of game programming and art skills, as well as mobile apps. This degree program prepares students for careers such as game designer and game developer.
