Man’s best friend is the focus for Making Magnolia Blossom’s upcoming Second Saturday volunteer event in which MMB will partner to help CCAPS shelter from 9 a.m. to noon on September 12, 2015.
Volunteers are needed to complete a number of meaningful projects at the Columbia County Animal Protection Society Shelter at 506 West Columbia Street off Vine Avenue. There is no need to RSVP for this event, just eat a hearty breakfast and come ready for an enjoyable volunteer experience. MMB will provide water and supplies.
One of the primary projects CCAPS and MMB hope to complete is to build a new dog pen to allow more space for the animals. Other tasks include landscape upkeep, mowing, woodwork on a ramp, filling in holes, and general cleanup.
CCAPS needs help with some of the supplies, including chain link fence ties, Quikrete, railroad ties, and paint. If anyone is interested in donating supplies or money to help with their purchase, please contact Deana Taylor, community involvement coordinator at SAU, at 870-235-4922.
CCAPS will also be offering half-price adoptions in coordination with this Second Saturday event. Contact them at 870-234-7297 for more information.
MMB’s Second Saturdays began this past May, and these events have helped with volunteers picking up trash before the Blossom Festival and completing projects in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Magnolia prior to their hosting of the regional softball tournament.
MMB is also working on the upcoming October 24 Big Splash, which will concentrate efforts on Jackson Street between SAU and Magnolia. Register to receive MMB updates at www.MagnoliaBlossom.org.
