Phi Beta Lambda and Enactus of Southern Arkansas University’s Rankin College of Business (RCB) are holding a diaper drive this month, which will culminate with a Diaper Drop-off Day from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on November 18 in the SAU Reynolds Center Plaza.
Call-ins to have diapers picked up or dropped off at the RCB or on the drop off date is allowed. Any and all donations are accepted and welcomed. Money donated will be used to purchase additional disposable diapers.
The goal for this year’s drive is to collect at least 6,000 diapers. The diapers collected will be distributed by Hannah Pregnancy Resource Center to families in Columbia County.
“This is the sixth year we’ve sponsored a diaper drive,” said Dr. Gerald Plumlee, assistant professor of management at the RCB and PBL advisor. “The reason for the drive is to get diapers to people who really need them. Parents can’t take their babies to day care without a full day’s supply of disposable diapers.”
One Arkansas child is born into poverty every 47 minutes, according to the Children’s Defense Fund. Families struggling to provide food and necessities are often forced to choose between buying food and purchasing diapers for their infants.
For more than 15 years, the Hannah Pregnancy Resource Center has been working to provide life-affirming services to women facing pregnancy in South Arkansas. They offer non-judgmental care to preserve and protect human life so that their patients can find hope in what seems like a hopeless situation. Their three centers in El Dorado, Camden, and Magnolia provide options for teen pregnancy, un-expected pregnancies or expectant mothers in need of assistance.
