Southern Arkansas senior cross-country runner Michelle Beavers has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® First-Team for Cross-Country/Track and Field as it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday.
Beavers, a native of Metairie, La., earned Capital One Academic All-America® Second-Team honors last year as a junior, and is the first female student-athlete and second overall at Southern Arkansas to be named an Academic All-American more than once.She is also one of three female student-athletes from the Great American Conference to earn the prestigious national award and is one of two to appear on the first-team.
A recent Summa Cum Laude graduate from the Honors College at Southern Arkansas in Chemistry Pre-Health & Biology Pre-health, Beavers capped her four-year career at SAU with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A.
As a cross country runner this past fall, Beavers finished 15th overall with a time of 20:32.0 at the Great American Conference Championships, making her an All-GAC Second-Team runner for the second straight year. A four-year runner for SAU, Beavers has been named to the GAC All-Academic Team three times including inclusion on the fall 2014 team.
The Capital One Academic All-America® program honors student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level in athletics and in the classroom. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by the sports information director.
