MAGNOLIA – The Natural Resource Research Center at Southern Arkansas University has significantly expanded its range of services to the region’s public and industry.
The NRRC has made a name for itself for its analytical chemistry support for research and development services and as one of the few Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality certified laboratories. The facility on SAU’s campus has now added consulting and research in engineering simulation, 3-D printing, and information assurance and security services.
At the new Engineering Simulation and 3-D Printing Lab, staff is prepared to offer solid modeling, 3-D printing, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics simulation, and engineering facilities.
“The SAU Engineering Lab can make prototypes of your products,” said Dr. Scott McKay, SAU dean of the College of Science and Technology. “Our experts can convert your ideas in to CAD models and turn them into prototypes with our 3-D printing capabilities.”
As for the information assurance and security services, McKay said that SAU can offer the following services: information security assessment; security architecture design and review; security policy design, review and documentation; vulnerability assessment and penetration testing; I.T. business continuity and contingency readiness review; I.T. risk management and threat assessments; and information security management.

The NRRC has secured a list of corporate partnerships since the facility ADEQ inspection on January 30, 2013. This certification made it possible for the Center to compete for federal and state water and soil testing grants and contracts.
The NRRC is an approximately 3,000 square-foot facility on the SAU campus behind the Science Center. The center was funded jointly by SAU and a grant from the Department of Commerce through the Arkansas Economic Development Administration. It was completed in 2010. The NRRC consists of several separate laboratories and is thoroughly equipped with state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation.
