- Whitney Gass, criminal justice instructor, and Dr. Deborah Wilson, assistant professor of psychology, accompanied by Alaina Atkinson, graduate assistant in the School of Graduate Studies, and Linley Crisp, senior criminal justice major, attended the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ACADV) workshop “Stalking: Know It, Name It, Stop It.” The workshop was part of the ACADV’s training on intimate partner violence and related issues.
- Caroline Hammond, MNSc, RN, from SAU’s Department of Nursing, presented the topic of “Pressure Ulcers: Prevention, Assessment, Treatment and Documentation” at the 13th annual Rehabilitation Conference at the Texarkana Convention Center in early February. The conference was hosted by Christus St. Michael Rehabilitation Hospital and focused on providing updated information and issues facing the rehabilitation community in the 21st century to help health care professionals provide optimal care.
- Dr. Debe Kincaid is actively involved with the new initiatives in K-12 instruction and assessment with Common Core State Standards and Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) processes. She attended her second PARCC meeting in February.
- Assistant Professor of Theatre Clayton Guiltner is co-producing the U.S. premiere of the new play, “Behind the Lie” – a taut, psychological police interrogation of a doctor suspected of killing his wife. The play is written by Nick Rongjun Yu, China’s most-produced living playwright and translated by Claire Conceison, professor of theater studies and Asian and Middle Eastern studies at Duke University. The play is directed by Robert Woods, instructor at The Los Angles Film School, who served as guest director of “Royal Gambit” last spring at Southern Arkansas University. The play features accomplished professional actors Cecil Burroughs and Dwayne Barnes. Burroughs has performed for Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre, ETA, Court Theatre, and Theatre Seven of Chicago and was trained at The School at Steppenwolf in Chicago before relocating back to his home state of California, where he performed in “A Soldier’s Play” at Malibu Stage Company. His television credits include: CSI, Scandal, Private Practice, and The Mentalist (airing 4/14/13 on CBS). Barnes has acted in such hit shows as CSI, E.R, Cold Case, Without a Trace, Saving Grace, Numbers, The Shield, and Six Feet Under.
Guiltner is incorporating examples of his producing work on this production into his upper-level spring theatre class at SAU, theatre management. Students in the class are learning various management techniques in theatre, including stage management and producing. The play is set to open in April at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Hollywood, Calif. and will run the month of April.
