Southern Arkansas University will host the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional mathematics contest on Saturday, March 3, and area students are invited to participate. The event begins at 8 a.m. in Foundation Hall of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center.
ACTM is a professional association that supports and encourages good mathematics teaching. ACTM conducts annual regional and state mathematics contests that provide an opportunity for high school students to compete academically. Following the regional contest, teachers may access the regional tests and use them as teaching tools in the designated courses.
Competitions will be in six areas: Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, trigonometry/pre-calculus, calculus and statistics. To be eligible to participate in any competition, a student must be enrolled in a course or have completed a course during the current school year, described by the title of the area test.
Students who are designated as first, second or third place winners at the regional contest will be invited to compete in the state contest during the academic year.
