The Phi Beta Lambda chapter at Southern Arkansas University recently attended the 2012 State Leadership Conference in Little Rock where the chapter brought home 39 state awards and recognitions, including seven first place awards.
A total of 23 chapter members and two advisers along with SAU PBL alum Candyce McCann attended the three-day conference. A list of all the award winners is included below.
Chapter co-adviser Sheryl Edwards was presented with the Presidential Excellence Award from the 2011-2012 Arkansas PBL State President Tommy Clark. Clark is a senior management and finance double major from Magnet Cove. He placed first in the impromptu speaking event and received recognition in Who’s Who in Arkansas PBL. Clark also serves as the 2011-2012 local chapter president for SAU PBL and earned first place for the local chapter annual business report he wrote on behalf of the chapter.
Cecilie Lane, a graduating senior majoring in accounting from Kingsland, served as the 2011-2012 Arkansas PBL state executive vice president of membership. Due to her extensive involvement in PBL throughout her four years at SAU, Lane was chosen to represent Arkansas in Who’s Who in PBL at this year’s National Leadership Conference. She currently serves an executive vice president and the parliamentarian of the SAU PBL chapter. Lane completed the director level of the National PBL Chapter Member Achievement Program (CMAP) this year. She also received second place in the accounting for professionals event and third place in the accounting analysis and decision making event.
SAU-PBL’s community service project placed second in state competition. The project was chaired by Deana Hughes, a junior biology major from Arkadelphia. The project report was written and presented by Hughes and Amanda Watson, a senior accounting major from Emerson.
Hughes currently serves as the SAU PBL chapter director of community service, and she was named the 2012 Arkansas PBL Member of the Year. She placed fifth in the PBL facts event, fifth in the computer concepts event, and third in the word processing event. Hughes also completed the executive level of the National PBL CMAP this year.
Watson currently serves as the SAU PBL chapter secretary/treasurer and received recognition in Who’s Who in Arkansas PBL. She placed first in the business etiquette open event and third in the accounting for professionals event. Watson completed all three levels (director, executive and presidential) of CMAP this year.
Kelly Birchfield is a senior accounting major from Camden. She currently serves as the director of chapter programs for SAU PBL. She placed first in the accounting principles event and second in the business law event.
Heather Black is a senior business-agriculture major from Norman. She placed second in the international business event and third in the microeconomics event.
Jineen Davis-Dobbins is a senior general business major from Magnolia. She placed second in the small business management plan event.
Megan Godsil is a senior marketing major from Durham, Calif. She placed second in the sports management and marketing event.
Megan Maye is a sophomore finance major from Hatfield. She currently serves as the director of publicity for the SAU PBL chapter. She placed second in the statistical analysis event.
Chetan Lama, a graduating senior accounting and finance double major from Nepal, placed third in the database design and applications event and fourth in the accounting for professionals event.
Briti Nakarmi, a junior MIS major from Nepal, placed third in the international business event.
Lauren Mitchell, a graduating senior accounting major from Camden, placed fourth in the accounting analysis and decision making event.
Vincent Oliver, a junior marketing major from Bentonville, placed fourth in the computer concepts event.
Kristen Temple, a senior accounting major from Mount Holly, currently serves as the vice president of membership for the SAU PBL chapter. She placed fourth in the international business event.
Porscha Teasley, a senior accounting major from Smackover, placed fourth in the microeconomics event and fifth in the accounting principles event.
Brent Wright, a senior accounting major from El Dorado, placed fifth in the business law event.
The SAU PBL Chapter was also awarded third place for largest local chapter membership and second place for raising money for Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Twelve chapter members will be representing SAU at the PBL National Leadership Conference in San Antonio on June 24-27. PBL members rely on donations and fundraisers to cover the expense of attending the National Leadership Conference. All proceeds from fundraisers and donations will go towards hotel and travel expenses for the trip.
