Southern Arkansas University will host the first Mid-south Undergraduate Research Conference, “Transitions: From student to scholar” Oct. 12-13 in the D.W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center.
The conference will consist of several workshops for students Friday, including “Presentation Practice” and “Information on Pursuing a Graduate Degree,” as well as topics covering multiple disciplines of study from English and biology to chemistry, mathematics and computer science.
Students from SAU, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Texas will attend and present.
Saturday morning, students will present their research and awards for best papers and presentations will be presented during the two-day conference. Vice President of Academic Affairs Trey Berry will be the keynote speaker
“For our first meeting, we are excited about the good turnout,” said SAU Assistant Professor of Biology and recipient of the L.A. Logan Professorship Shawn Krosnick. “Undergraduates will have the opportunity to share their research in a supportive environment, interact with students and faculty from different institutions and see the SAU campus.”
Organizers said the conference will become an annual event and they hope to expand it each year.
