Elizabeth Pratt, assistant professor of nursing, attended a webinar entitled “Electronic Nursing Information: PEPID” on January 26. The webinar was sponsored by PEPID Medical Information Resources. The group provides the latest clinical and drug information with content available for iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Palm, Palm Pre, Google Android, Windows Mobile, Online, or integration into any healthcare information system.
Becky Parnell, assistant professor of nursing, attended the Southern Nursing Research Society 26th annual conference in New Orleans during February. The conference was entitled “Nurse Scientists as Crucial Partners to Health Delivery.” She served as the monitor for the symposium “Interdisciplinary Research in Clinical Care.” She was also a member of the program committee for the conference.
Shelley Keith, website coordinator and December 2011 magna cum laude graduate from the College of Business, was recently accepted into and has begun a graduate program in information quality at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Donaghey College Engineering and Information Technology. The program was established in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Information Quality program and is dedicated to promoting state of the art curriculum in information quality education, contributing new ideas to the information quality knowledge base, and establishing information quality partnerships with the community, government, and industry. The program at UALR is one of only two in the nation.
Dr. Tim Schroeder, director of the Natural Resource Research Center, was recently interviewed by local television station KTBS for a story that aired on February 24. Dr. Ken Green, professor of management, along with Pam Zelbst and Vic Sower from Sam Houston State University and Pedro Reyes from Baylor University, recently had their article, “Impact of RFID on Manufacturing Effectiveness and Efficiency,” published in the International Journal of Operations and Production Management. Analyzing data from a sample of 155 manufacturing managers, they found that the utilization of RFID technology leads to improve manufacturing efficiency and effectiveness.
Dr. Terrye Stinson, professor of accounting, recently presented a continuing professional education workshop entitled “Straight Talk about Ethics” at the Arkansas Federal Tax Institute sponsored by the Arkansas Society of CPAs and the Arkansas Bar Association. She also presented a similar workshop at the January meeting of the South Arkansas Chapter of CPAs.
The article “Strategies for Improving Academic Performance in Non-native English Speakers in Graduate Programs” by Dr. Terrye Stinson, professor of accounting, along with Tracye Todd and Thiru Sivakumaran of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, was published in the December issue of the Journal of College Teaching and Learning.
Dr. Scott McKay, dean of the College of Science and Technology, and colleagues from George Mason University and the University of Central Missouri, published the article “Biofuel: An alternative to fossil fuel for alleviating world energy and economic crises.” The article recently became the most read in the Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A.
