Are the arts necessary in a depressed economy? That question will be discussed by four guest speakers during a presentation at Southern Arkansas University at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, in Foundation Hall of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center.
Presenters will include Michael Osborne of San Francisco, Timothy Goodman and Chris Cortez of New York City and Youngran Ryu of Portland. All four artists are at the top of their fields in design and illustration.
Osborne works are part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian and San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art. He has designed stamps for the United States Postal Service. Some of his designs are the “Love” stamp and the “Madonna and Child Stamp.”
Goodman was a senior designer with Apple and creates illustrations for Fortune 500 clients such as Time, CNN and the New York Times. His illustration work has appeared on the cover of Time magazine.
Youngran Ryu is a senior designer for Nike and was awarded Korea’s best designer before moving to the U.S.
Cortez appeared on “the Cut “with Tommy Hilfiger in 2005 and was a designer for Hilfiger. He now has his own New York design studio.
All four will be discussing in an open forum their process and their contributions to the general economy. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
