Dr. Carla Bryant, assistant professor of education, and her husband Carroll Bryant hosted and presented at an educational workshop for K-12 teachers during spring break in Dangriga, Belize. Dr. Bryant provided “grass-roots” training related to classroom management, teaching and learning, gifted education, and school leadership. Mr. Bryant provided training related to teaching and learning and special needs students. Dr. Bryant has been invited to return to Belize to host a more lengthy and in-depth training session for teachers nationwide.
Dr. Sheri Baggett-McMinn, associate professor of health, kinesiology and recreation, has been notified that she has been recognized as a VIP inclusion in Worldwide Who’s Who registry of executives, professionals and entrepreneurs for 2012-2013.
Ginger Covington, instructor of nursing and simulation laboratory specialist, was recently accepted into Sigma Theta Tau, Gamma Xi chapter of the International Nursing Honor Society. Her invitation for admittance was made through the Community Leader program.
Dr. Misty LaCour, assistant professor of education, was chosen to serve as a lead reviewer for NCATE for the spring 2012 NAEYC SPA review cycle. As such, she is leading a team of reviewers in assessing early childhood education programs at various institutions throughout the U.S. Through the reviews, the team determines accreditation status of the reviewed institutions.
Dr. Natalia Murphy, assistant professor of history, political science and geography, was selected as the 2011-2012 Supplemental Instruction Instructor of the Year. She was honored with a framed certificated presented at the fourth annual Student Support Services awards reception.
Tammy Sims, human resources manager, received the award for outstanding student of the year for the Master of Public Administration program.
Dr. Brian Canfield, professor of counselor education, delivered an invited keynote address at the opening session of the International Counseling and Education Conference in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 3-5. The inaugural ICE Conference was held at the Taskisla campus of Istanbul Technical University and drew more than 400 participants from 22 countries.
