Running in the dark may not be the norm, but a group of students at Southern Arkansas University plans to make it fun and benefit a deserving group.
The Office of Campus Housing and students living in Greene Hall will sponsor the “Get Up and Glow 5K” on Friday, April 20. The race begins at dark at the SAU track, circles around the Farm Road walking trail, though campus and ends up back at the track.
Registration cost for SAU students will be $15 in advance and $20 on race day. Non-student registration will be $25 and $30 on race day. Registration will begin at 7:30 p.m.
All registered runners and walkers will receive a t-shirt and glow-in-the-dark necklaces and bracelets and are encouraged to bring as much glow-in-the-dark apparel as possible. Overall male and female winners will receive a trophy. Medals will be given to the top three winners for each age group.
Funds raised through the Get Up and Glow 5K will benefit The Playground Project, an effort to purchase equipment for a children’s playground at the University Village apartment complex. Although the apartments are home to many single students, there are numerous families living at the University Village. The students from Greene Hall hope to give the children from those families a fun place to play.
The event is being co-sponsored by the SAU School of Graduate Studies. To pre-register for the race or for more information, contact the Office of University Housing at (870) 235-4047. Additional information my be found at the event website.
