Bands will perform McBeth’s works

The Southern Arkansas University band department has announced its first combined performance of the season to take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, in Harton Theatre.

The Concert Band, conducted by Sarah Mickey, and the Wind Ensemble, conducted by J.P. Wilson, will perform a concert of standard and contemporary wind band literature. The bands will be performing works composed by Dr. Francis McBeth, composer laureate of Arkansas, who died on January 6. Dr. Trey Berry, dean of the College of Liberal and Performing Arts at SAU and a friend of McBeth, will be joining the wind ensemble as narrator for McBeth’s “Of Sailors and Whales (Five Scenes from Melville).”
