MAGNOLIA — The Department of Theatre and Mass Communication at Southern Arkansas University will present the musical comedy “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!” at Harton Theatre each night Tuesday, Feb. 22, through Thursday, Feb. 24.
Tickets are $3 for SAU students, faculty, and staff and $5 for the general public and may be purchased at the door. Doors open each night at 6:30 p.m.
“The dance in this is very minimal,” said Clayton Guiltner, assistant professor of theatre and director of the musical. “I would say it’s not a large spectacle dance show by any stretch, but there’s some really creative music in this in that it’s got a lot of different styles of music. So what we are trying to do with the choreography is to emphasize those styles; it certainly will give Frankie (McDaniel) the opportunity to choreograph a show which is a great experience for him.”
Franklin “Frankie” McDaniel has taken on the choreography role for the production as his senior project, and Andria Phillips is the guest musical director.
Guiltner describes the show as being a celebration of the mating game from dating and waiting, to love and marriage. The musical is a tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, and to all of those who have dared to ask, “So… What are you doing Saturday night?”
“If you want a good laugh, and you just need a break from your stressful week, come see the show,” Guiltner said. “You’ll be very glad you did.”
