Do you have what it takes to be the SAU Mulerider?
Try-outs are being planned to find the next Mulerider. The Mulerider is more than just the mascot, he or she is an official ambassador of Southern Arkansas University.
The Mulerider receives a $3,000 per year scholarship.
Qualifications include:
- 2.7 cumulative GPA
- Experience riding and handling horses/mules
- At least two years remaining at SAU (preference will be given to freshmen or those with at least three fall semesters remaining at SAU)
- Ability to exhibit public speaking skills
- Ability to interact well with community and students
The student selected to be the SAU Mulerider will be required to fulfill the following duties:
- Attend all home football games and Mulegating activities
- Represent the University at various University events throughout the year
- Care for the mule each day while classes are in session
- Exercise the mule for one hour at least three days each week classes are in session.
Mulerider tryouts will include the following:
- Catching the mule inside the pen.
- Saddling the mule and preparing it to ride.
- Demonstration of riding abilities.
- Demonstration of public speaking abilities.
