- Clayton Guiltner, assistant professor of theatre, has been hired to direct Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for the Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park in Oklahoma City this summer. The organization was founded in 1985 and has been expanded to a year-round production company that entertains and educates it’s audiences through the performance of Shakespeare and other classical dramatic works. Guiltner’s show runs August 4 and runs through September.
- Dr. Brian S. Canfield, professor of counselor education, presented an ethics workshop titled “Confidentiality and Privileged Communication” at the annual conference of the Louisiana Association for Marriage and Family Therapy on March 12, in Baton Rouge.
- Dr. William Kist, assistant professor of health, kinesiology, and recreation, will be presenting his research “Maximal oxygen consumption, per exercise modality, in asthmatics with normal spirometry” at the Experimental Biology 2011 convention in Washington, D.C., April 9-13.
- Dr. Carla Bryant, assistant professor of counseling and professional studies, hosted the first Southwest Arkansas Gifted and Talented Educators Forum on March 3. Educators from Texarkana, Genoa, Magnolia, Nashville, Camden, and other local school districts attended the forum. The next forum is scheduled for Oct. 4.
- Dr. Carla Bryant, assistant professor of counseling and professional studies, presented a session titled “Navigating the Waters of ADE/ADHE Online Approval Process” at the 2011 Arkansas Blackboard Users Group (ArBug) conference in Hot Springs on March 11.
- Rebecca Parnell, assistant professor of nursing, presented her pilot study “From Failure to Success – Nurses’ Experiences in Nursing School” at the 25th annual conference for Southern Nursing Research Society on Feb. 17 in Jacksonville, Fla. This pilot will be the foundation for Parnell’s dissertation, and the presentation was funded by a SAU travel grant.
- Dr. Rudy Buckman, assistant professor of education, presented a workshop on “Evidence-based Suicide Assessment and Management” at the Arkansas Counseling Association’s 65th conference at the Arkansas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision’s Mid-Winter meeting. He will also present on Narrative Therapy at the American Counseling Association’s national conference held in New Orleans from March 23-27.
- Lavana Kindle, supplemental instruction coordinator and college reading instructor, was recently invited to attend a “Reading for Understanding” workshop hosted by Educational Testing Service of Princeton, N.J. Kindle will participate in a two-day focus group and will tour the Princeton University campus while in the area.
- Dr. Neeraj Bajracharya, assistant professor of mathematics, has published a research article in the International Journal of Algebra. The paper was titled “The level curves of the angle function of Positive Definite Symmetric Matrix.”
- Ken Cole, head athletic trainer, has been named NCAA Division II’s national athletic trainer of the year by the National Athletic Trainers Association/University Athletic Trainers Committee. Read the full story.

- Jessie Curtis, circulation supervisor for Magale Library, has been selected to be on the men’s team representing the World Taekwondo Alliance at a large international competition in July. Curtis is a third degree black belt in Taekwondo.
