MAGNOLIA — Seven students will represent the Southern Arkansas University Honors College when they make presentations at the 39th annual meeting of the Southern Regional Honors Council. The meeting will take place March 31 – April 2 at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock.
Student presentations will be made as follows:
- Xi Wu, a junior chemistry major from China, will present a project titled “Artificial Neural Network Approach to the Prediction of Estrogenic Activity of Environmental Chemicals.”
- Courtney Fricks, a junior psychology major from Texarkana, Texas, and Samson King, a sophomore biology major from Bald Knob, will present a project titled “Alzheimer’s Medications Prescribed in Southwest Arkansas and East Texas.”
- Chris Harris, a sophomore political science major from Maud, Texas, Carter Jones, a junior Spanish major from Lewisville, Samson King, and Thomas Kue a junior computer science major from Hope, will present a project titled “Preliminary Research Prior to Implementing an iPad enabled Honors Seminar Course.” This research was done in conjunction with SAU faculty members Edward P. Kardas and Deborah Wilson.
- Nimendra Mawalagedara, a sophomore political science major from Sri Lanka, will present a project titled “Hamas: The Transition from Terrorism to Democracy.”
Kardas and Wilson, along with Rebecca Oliver, director of the Arkansas State University Honors College, Barbara Pemberton, director of the Ouachita Baptist University Honors College, and Loretta McGregor, chair of the department of psychology at Arkansas State University, will present a panel discussion titled “When good students fail and what to do about it.”
