Dr. Brian Canfield, professor of counselor education, was invited to be the keynote speaker at the 11th Congress of Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance in Izmir, Turkey. He is a past president of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors and currently chairs the association’s committee on international education.
Dr. Ed Kardas, professor of psychology and director of the Honors College; Deborah Wilson, assistant professor of psychology; and Suraj Manandhar, a graduate assistant in the Honors College, attended the 40th annual National Collegiate Honors Council in Phoenix. Kardas and Wilson presented their honors admission research: Using the Non-Cognitive Questionnaire in Honors College Admissions and Retention: A Two Year Study. The pair, along with Manandhar, also presented research on the project An iPad 2 for Every Student in Honors Seminar: A Pilot Program. The audience was very interested in learning the names of the apps students are using, and the NCHC Research Committee voted to establish SAU as a new online site for a database on honors research. Manandhar will lead that effort.
Dr. Ken Green, professor of management, along with co-authors Pam Zelbst, Vic Sower and Roger Abshire from Sam Houston State University, recently had the article “Radio Frequency Identification Technology Utilization and Organizational Agility” published in the fall 2011 issue of the Journal of Computer Information Systems. Analyzing data from a sample of U.S. manufacturers, they found that the implementation of RFID technology enhances the ability of manufacturing organizations to rapidly respond to changes in customer demand.
Lavana Kindle, coordinator of supplemental instruction, volunteers her time to edit and maintain the Community Resource Directory. The directory is a guide for persons to refer others to resources in the surrounding five counties. Daniel Page, director of Magale Library, has been named chairman of the Arkansas Library Association’s Scholarship Committee.
Dr. Ed Kardas was elected to the board of the Magnolia/Columbia County Literacy Council on Wednesday, Dec. 8. The Council seeks to increase literacy levels for all people in the county regardless of age.
Dr. Ken Green, along with co-authors Dwayne Whitten of Texas A&M University and Pam Zelbst of Sam Houston State University, recently had the paper “Triple-A Supply Chain Performance” published in the International Journal of Operations and Production Management. Analyzing data from a sample of 132 supply chain professionals, they found that the Triple-A strategy of agility, adaptability, and alignment leads to improved supply chain performance and organizational performance.
