MAGNOLIA—The Office of Continuing Education at Southern Arkansas University will offer a series of spring continuing education courses over the next few months. The courses are open to the public.
• Introduction to Computers for Adults will be offered on Tuesdays Feb. 1 through March 8 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The beginner-level class will introduce adults to computer terminology, the use of hardware, software and simple Internet and Windows programs. Cost is $50. Instructor is Jim McCollum.
• Build Your Own Computer offers hands-on instruction in custom building a PC. Thursdays February 3 through 24 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cost is $40. Instructor is Jim McCollum.
• Introduction to Microsoft Word will cover creating, editing, layout and other elements of working in Word. Tuesdays Feb. 8 through March 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cost is $55. Instructor is Matthew McDonald.
• Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint will be offered on Tuesdays March 8 through March 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Learn how to create dynamic presentations with a unified design scheme for sales or informative presentations from simple to complex. Cost is $55. Instructor is Matthew McDonald.
• Dog Obedience and Agility Class will be offered on Saturdays May 7 through May 28 from 10 a.m. at Porsch Kennels. Obedience training can help dogs of any breed overcome a multitude of insecurities. Dogs will learn agility, which includes tunnel, dog walk, solid wood jump, PVC pipe jump, the A-frame and pause table. Dogs must be six months or older. Must have a stainless steel or chrome training collar and six-foot leash to participate. Current vaccines and a kennel cough vaccination are a must. Cost is $100. Instructor is Irene Porsch.
• Drama Class for youth will be offered on Mondays from Feb. 7 through March 28. Class for children ages seven through 12 will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Class for ages 13-17 will be from 7 pm. To 8 p.m. Location: Reynolds Center, Foundation Hall. Cost is $60 per child. Instructor is Janet Rider-Babbitt.
• Children’s Art Workshop will give youth a chance to be involved with drawing, painting and 3-D art. Tuesdays February 1 through 22. Classes for students in kindergarten through the third grade are from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Classes for fourth through sixth grade students are held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cost is $35. Instructor is Patricia Leslie. All materials will be supplied.
• Children’s Craft Workshop will be offered on Tuesdays March 29 through May 3. Children will create projects, such as a leather bracelet. Classes for students in kindergarten through the third grade are from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Classes for fourth through sixth grade students are held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cost is $50. All materials will be provided. Instructor is Patricia Leslie.
• Dancing for Beginners will provide opportunity to learn elegant and tantalizing dances like the swing and two-step. Classes are on Mondays April 4 through May 9 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the HKR studio. Cost is $45 for singles; $85 doubles. Instructor is Jay Brown and Lindsay Walters.
• Senior Wellness consists of Arthritis Foundation approved exercises utilizing water applications. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Jan. 19 through April 29 from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Cost is $60. Instructor is Sandi Alston.
• Aquacize will be offered on Tuesdays January 18 through April 28 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Class includes a wide variety of water exercises for cardiovascular conditioning, toning and strengthening muscles. Floatation devices are provided. Cost is $60. Instructor is Sandi Alston.
• Basic Floral Design will be offered on Mondays March 1 through March 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Learn principles of floral arranging including bow tying and arranging fresh and silk flowers. Please bring scissors and wire cutters. Fresh flowers and greenery will be furnished. Cost is $50. Instructor is Carl Bailey.
