MAGNOLIA – The Office of Student Activities at Southern Arkansas University is sponsoring a concert featuring Warner Bros. Recording artist Eric Hutchinson at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 at the SAU track. Up-and-coming artist Terra Naomi will open the show. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Hutchinson’s hits include the songs “Oh” and “Rock & Roll” from his debut album “Sounds Like This.” The album showcases the young singer-songwriter’s unique brand of soul and bowed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart in September 2007. “I tried really hard to keep it organic,” the artist says of the album. “Music is human expression and what’s more human than to make a mistake? So to record something and then take out all the mistakes leaves the project with no soul to it.”
Opening act Terra Naomi grew up in upstate New York. After spending four years on the road on a self-booked U.S. tour, she won the first YouTube “Best Music Video” award in 2006. She was later signed to a contract with Universal Publishing and Island/Universal Records in 2007 which led to tours with The Fray and Martha Wainwright. Her album “Under the Influence” was released in the United Kingdom. Another album, “You For Me,” was digitally released in October 2009. Following her current 25-date U.S. tour, she plans to tour India and Italy.
The concert at SAU is funded by a student activity fee through the Office of Student Activities as part of the Centennial Concert and Lecture Series which began in 2009. For more information, contact the Office of Student Activities at (870) 235-4925.
