MAGNOLIA – Fourteen students from the Southern Arkansas University College of business have recently completed internships with businesses in the Magnolia area. The students worked in the fields of accounting, finance, management and marketing.
Students working in internships in accounting included Amanda Baxter with C. S. Kincaid III CPA, Jennifer Dugan with the University of Arkansas Community College in Hope, and Leslie Sharp with Peoples Bank. Adam Tinsley also interned with Peoples Bank in the area of finance.
Management internships were held by Ashley Baldwin with Walgreen Pharmacy, John Flemens with Reliance Well Service and Megan Longino with Waldo Water Works.
Interning in the marketing area were Amy Cheatham with The Treasure Chest, Caitlin Harrison and Emily Lively with Big Boy Toys/The Interior Story, Calvin Langley with Aramark, Victor Neal with Sherwin Williams, Mitchell Owens with Smith South Central Sales of Springhill and Crystal Snider with South Arkansas Youth Service, Inc.
Typical activities interns experienced in marketing included accompanying retailers to market, managing inventory, sales and event planning. Similar job experiences are afforded the students in the accounting, management, and finance internships.
Dr. Gayle White, intern director, said the students have a much better educational experience because of the internship opportunities. All interns have an opportunity to learn human relations skills, see the importance of these skills and practice the skills in a real situation. In addition, the interns are given an opportunity to expand their networks and to explore a specific industry before committing to full-time employment.
Any area business needing a summer or fall intern should contact the College of Business at (870) 235-4300.
