MAGNOLIA — Southern Arkansas University’s Students In Free Enterprise presentation team won first place at SIFE regional competition on March 30 in Dallas.
The competition called for a 24-minute audio/visual presentation which highlighted projects SIFE conducted throughout the year. The presentation must correspond to a six-page annual report.
“It was very exciting to see all of our hard work pay off this year,” said senior Krystal Groves. “I am proud to be able to represent SIFE/SAU at SIFE nationals.”
SIFE presentation team members include Amber Amonette, a senior from Mineral Springs, Ashford Drunson, a freshman from Hot Springs, Krystal Groves, a senior from Warren, Scott Hinton, a senior from Stamps, Valerie Smith, a freshman from Junction City, Weston Wright, a senior from Smackover, and Heather McLeckie, a senior from Omaha, Texas.
The SIFE team from SAU competed against teams from Cameron University, Lubbock Christian University, Pittsburg State University, Texas A&M International University and Oklahoma City Community College. A total of 44 teams were at the competition, and 12 regional SIFE competitions were held throughout the country.
Teams that placed at the regional competition are able to compete at the national level. The national competition will be held in Minneapolis, Minn., May 11-13.
Team member Scott Hinton said, “All students who participated considered it to be a very gratifying experience. We feel confident we will perform well at nationals. Our team is a dynamic group and we are on top of our game.”
SIFE will be holding various fundraisers to raise money to attend the national competition. Members will sell Southern Arkansas University diploma frames and will hold a Schwan’s Foods fundraiser.
