MAGNOLIA – Going to college just got easier than remembering your locker combination.
“Say Go College Week” provides activities and events at colleges and universities across Arkansas to get high school students serious about beginning a college education. Southern Arkansas University has planned several events to help make this event a success.
On Monday, Feb. 15, SAU held campus tours and a financial aid workshop. Incentives were provided to encourage alumni of the University to participate. “We sent letters to area high schools saying that we would provide t-shirts to SAU alumni who are teachers or administrators,” said Bronwyn Sneed, director of financial aid. “We had many requests from teachers and administrators for the t-shirts, so they are excited about wearing shirts from their alma mater.”
To round out the week, SAU will host “College Goal Sunday” from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, in the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center. This is a one-day, statewide event created to help students learn more about higher education and to apply for financial aid. The event is designed to assist students no matter which Arkansas college or university they plan to attend.
“The culmination of the week results in parents actually bringing in their tax returns to get their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) completed,” Sneed said.
Say Go College Week is sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. Visit www.saygocollege.com for more information, or contact the SAU Office of Financial Aid at (870) 235-4023.
