MAGNOLIA – A program on the recently published “Southern Arkansas University: The Mulerider School’s Centennial History, 1909-2009” will be presented from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, at Magale Library on the University campus for students, faculty, staff, and area citizens. Refreshments will be served, courtesy of Magale Library.
Dr. James F. Willis, university historian, will show a slide presentation of school photos while he discusses writing the book and reads from the text. Among the excerpts, he will highlight stories about the undefeated 1929 championship Mulerider football team, the school’s first student dance in 1934, and students’ construction of the Greek Theater in 1936.
“Southern Arkansas University: The Mulerider School’s Centennial History, 1909-2009” was authored by Willis as part of the University’s Centennial celebration in 2009. The 378-page book chronicles the history of the University from its founding as the Third District Agricultural School through the present. Royalties from the book benefit endowments of the SAU Foundation.
No books will be sold at this event. Willis, however, will sign any books brought to the presentation. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the SAU Bookstore in the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Service Center.
