MAGNOLIA— Homecoming week has arrived at Southern Arkansas University, and organizers have a week full of events planned leading up to the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 30. The theme of Homecoming 2010 is “Fear the Kick.”
Festivities begin with the announcement of the Homecoming court and crowning of the king and queen during coronation at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25. The event takes place in Grand Hall of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center.
On Tuesday, the Student Activities Board will sponsor a drive-in movie on the Reynolds Center parking lot. The event will begin at 8:30 p.m. and will feature the movie “Eclipse” from the “Twilight” series. The public is invited to attend the showing.
Wednesday will feature “Tiger Burgers” on the campus mall from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The name for this annual lunch comes from the Muleriders’ opponent on Saturday.
Student organizations will take part in the annual street painting contest Thursday night from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m. The homecoming bonfire will take place during the street painting contest, weather conditions permitting.
Following the street painting contest, students will take part in the second annual Great SAU Camp Out from 1-6 a.m. The camp out will take place on the campus mall.
Friday morning activities will begin early as SAU welcomes KATV Daybreak to campus for the Homecoming pep rally. The live broadcast will take place on the campus mall, and a full breakfast will be served to everyone in attendance.
The traditional “heartbeat” will begin at noon Friday and will continue until kick-off on Saturday.
The Southern Arkansas University Department of Athletics will host its annual Sports Hall of Fame banquet at 7 p.m. Friday in the Reynolds Center Grand Hall. All past recipients will be honored, and the 2010 Hall of Fame class will be inducted. For more information on this event, contact the Department of Athletics at (870) 235-4102.
The Golden Mulerider Breakfast will be hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Reynolds Center Grand Hall. The Class of 1960 will be inducted as “Golden Muleriders.” All former Golden Muleriders are invited to attend. Please call of the Office of Alumni Relations at (870) 235-4079 for more information.
Mulegating – SAU’s version of tailgating – will begin at 11 a.m. on the grounds of the SAU Welcome Center.
Presentation of the Homecoming royalty will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wilkins Stadium. The Muleriders will kick-off against the University of West Alabama at 2:30 p.m.
Homecoming week festivities will wrap up after the game with the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s Greek Show at 7 p.m. in the W.T. Watson Athletic Center and the post-game party at 11 p.m. in the Rider Rink.
