MAGNOLIA— Students in Free Enterprise and Phi Beta Lambda recently sponsored “Financing Your Future,” a month-long series teaching financial success skills at Southern Arkansas University. During the month of February, the program offered more than 25 lectures and seminars on the Magnolia campus.
Speakers included business representatives from Magnolia, Camden, El Dorado, Springhill, La., Little Rock, Shreveport, La., and Alexandria, La., as well as several SAU faculty. More than 35 students attended each seminar, with some having over 70 people in attendance.
“We had more support than ever from the local and regional business community, as well as from Dr. David Rankin, Dean Lisa Toms and all College of Business faculty. This helped us reach our goal of not only improving attendance, but increasing financial literacy throughout all of SAU,” said Scott Hinton, project co-leader.
Business students were required to attend at least five seminars, but according to project co-leader Bradley Owens, everyone seemed to have a positive attitude. “Hopefully the program can expand to become campus-wide,” he said.
Senior Amber Amonette said, “Financing your future is a wonderful asset to college students’ impending careers. It not only widens their financial knowledge, but gives them valuable tools for the future.”
