MAGNOLIA — Ruben Zamora, president of OpTech Healthcare Solutions, recently served as the Executive in Residence for the College of Business at Southern Arkansas University.
Zamora, a University of Texas-Pan American graduate, spoke to students and faculty about his experiences of coming from a small town and lower income, single-parent family to becoming a regional vice president for Bristol Myers Squib. He also took the time to meet with several College of Business student leaders and discussed with them the challenges in today’s job market.
The Executive in Residence program began in 1986 as a means of bringing top-level executives to the College of Business to interact with students and provide opportunities for them to learn about management and leadership in the corporate world.
“We were thrilled have Mr. Zamora as our Executive in Residence,” said Dr. Lisa Toms, dean of the College of Business. “Giving our students and faculty the opportunity to interact with a leader of his quality continues our tradition of providing excellence in academic enrichment programs.”
Zamora has almost 30 years of sales, marketing, and management experience. His most recent assignments included leading a pharmaceutical business organization as a regional vice president of sales. He has extensive experience in hiring, developing, and promoting diverse sales, marketing, and administrative talent in the healthcare arena.
In addition, he has identified and collaborated closely with healthcare organizations and their leaders to support better outcomes for patients and to increase efficiencies in healthcare delivery. As the first field-based diversity mentor for Bristol-Myers Squibb, he was charged with helping employees of diverse backgrounds achieve organizational excellence.
OpTech is a diversified corporation with business divisions in supply chain management, government contracting and personnel research, biotechnology, and the automotive industry.
