MAGNOLIA – Tim Daniels, associate professor of biology at Southern Arkansas University, has been appointed to the Arkansas Science Teachers Association board as the Southwest Region Director. The ASTA has a statewide membership of more than 1,000 primary, elementary, middle school, high school and college teachers.
Daniels was elected to the position in late 2009. He said it was an honor and surprise that will benefit both him and the University. “As a voting member of the ASTA board I will participate in quarterly meetings,” he said. “My ASTA post should not affect my teaching role at SAU, though it does give SAU and our portion of the state a voice in the actions taken by the ASTA.”
ASTA provides the ASTA Science Newsletter, the ASTA Web site, training in science education programs and information on science course development to its membership. They also provide high-quality technology staff development through the Educators’ Technology Conference and partner with other state teacher organizations in the Arkansas Curriculum Conference.
Membership in ASTA is open to any kindergarten through university-level teacher of science. The organization’s main purpose is to help others do a better job of teaching science to Arkansas students.
