MAGNOLIA– Southern Arkansas University hosted a public forum on new Arkansas scholarships on May 6 in Foundation Hall of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center. Dr. Jim Purcell, director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, gave a presentation on the new Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, explaining changes and new criteria for the scholarship.
Purcell stressed that more students than ever are eligible to apply because the scholarship is no longer based on financial need, making it available to all families regardless of income levels. The scholarship is also open to non-traditional students this year. In years past, the scholarship has been available only to first year freshmen.
All students are encouraged to complete the Arkansas universal scholarship application online at www.adhe.edu. By completing this application, students apply for several types of ADHE aid, including the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and GO! Opportunities Grant. In order to apply, students must have completed the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). The deadline to apply is June 1.
