SAU-PBL ATTENDS NATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
MAGNOLIA—The Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter at Southern Arkansas University recently attended the 2009 National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Anaheim, California. Six chapter members and chapter adviser Traci Hughes attended the four-day conference, which included numerous leadership workshops, national competitive events, and national officer elections. In total, the Arkansas PBL delegation brought home thirty national awards, including second place for the largest state chapter membership
At the NLC, PBL members are given the opportunity to compete in 50 different events representing a wide range of activities and the business and leadership development focus of FBLA-PBL. The winners of these highly competitive and prestigious awards are selected from among FBLA-PBL’s membership of over 250,000 students and advisers and represent some of the best and brightest students across the nation.
SAU-PBL’s Free Enterprise project placed fifth in national competition. The project report was written by Kayla Wright, a sophomore nursing major from Smackover. The project was presented by Lea Chenoweth and Brittany Trabbic. Chenoweth is a 2009 marketing graduate from Smackover and Trabbic is a senior finance major from Smackover. Trabbic also competed in Financial Concepts and served as a chapter voting delegate.
Cecilie Lane, a sophomore management major from Kingsland competed in Computer Applications and served as a chapter voting delegate.
Crystal Lewis, a senior accounting and finance double major from Shongaloo, LA, placed sixth in Accounting Analysis and Decision Making, competed in the Accounting for Professionals event, and served as a chapter voting delegate.
Donna Lambis, a senior accounting major from El Dorado, placed third in Business Law.
Ashley Talley, a 2009 marketing and management graduate from Magnolia, placed ninth in Marketing Analysis and Decision Making and competed in the Management Concepts event.
Hughes, the chapter advisor, was recognized as Arkansas PBL’s Outstanding Local Chapter Adviser and the SAU chapter was recognized as a recipient of the Hollis and Kitty Guy Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit. .
Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) is the national business education association that prepares students for their future careers. Its members, belonging to more than 6,000 chartered chapters, include students from the United States, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Europe. Phi Beta Lambda is the post-secondary division of Future Business Leaders of America.
