MAGNOLIA— Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is sponsoring the 2009 March of Dimes on campus at Southern Arkansas University.
March of Dimes was established in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to help fight polio, a disease that had devastated the country leaving many children dead or paralyzed. The organization helped to beat polio, and now strives to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality through research, community services, education and advocacy.
“Future Business Leaders of America/Phi Beta Lambda corporate is in the top five donors to the March of Dimes, said Traci Hughes, PBL adviser. “We are proud to help support such a noble cause.”
PBL, a student organization that is part of the SAU College of Business, has added an extra incentive for donations for their 2009 March of Dimes fundraiser. Normally, donation containers are distributed to all College of Business faculty, and they simply collect the contributions. This year the faculty member who collects the most donations will get a pie thrown in his or her face. Faculty members participating in the “Pie in the Face” contest are Dr. David Ashby, professor of finance; Brian Logan, instructor of economics; Dr. Jennifer Logan, assistant professor of economics; Gerald Plumlee, assistant professor of management; Dr. Sam Riner, interim chair of accounting, finance, and economics; Dr. Lisa Toms, dean of the College of Business; Mark Trout, instructor of marketing; Shane Warrick, instructor of accounting; Ronnie Watson, assistant professor of management; Dr. Tim Wise, professor of marketing; and Dr. Limount Zhao, associate professor of finance.
All other business faculty who are not participating in the contest chose instead to make donations. The donations will be taken until Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 12:30 p.m. At that time, the faculty member who has received the most contributions will get “pied” in front of the fountain outside of the Business/Agri Business building.
PBL has been sponsoring the March of Dimes at SAU since 1970. “We always enjoy supporting the March of Dimes because several families in the community have benefited from programs supported by the March of Dimes,” said Hughes
