MAGNOLIA, Ark.― Martin Luther King Jr. will be remembered with a march and a program on the Southern Arkansas University campus on January 21, Martin Luther King Day.
The march begins at noon on Monday at the intersection of North Vine and University. Participants in the march will make their way to Foundation Hall at the Donald W. Reynolds Center at SAU.
Cledius Stuart, director of multicultural services at SAU said he hopes people will join in the day to memorialize King.
SAU president Dr. David Rankin will open the ceremony with a welcome. The Genesis Ministry Choir and Elder Vincent Sneed will sing. Logan Hampton, director of the Donaghey Student Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock will be the keynote speaker. Stuart said Hampston is a minister at the Bullock Temple AME Church in Little Rock which is across the street from the historic Central High School which was the school desegregation sight for the Little Rock Nine.
Classes will not report Monday so students can participate in memorials to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
